Book Review for "Walking In The Light" by Phoebe B. Honig

Every once in awhile, after reading many books in my life, I come across a real “gem” of good purposeful effort. This book is, indeed, one of those gems. The author has many talents. In addition to Phoebe (“Bing”) being a writer, she is a poet, artist, and illustrator. She also has a keen eye to observe nature. And, last but not least, she is a walker – a dedicated walker.

“Bing” generally starts her days with brisk walks. And from these walks, she makes astute observations about life, the world, the Spirit, and herself. She makes for delightful reading. To read her writing is to join with “Bing” on her walks; to enjoy her observations and inspirations; to gain insight about life; to see life in a larger meaning; and especially, to walk out of the dark and into the light. In some areas, she draws connective relationships between nature, the Spirit, and the human psyche.

There are 49 simple, short articles of enlightenment in the book. A few samples include: “On Being Me”, “Necessary Spaces”, “Still Waters”, “Voices of Nature”, and “Even in the Darkest Times”. These articles of enlightenment entertain us, and offer, accordingly, many wonderful reflections. With her talent, wisdom, and uncanny ability to observe her surroundings she shows how certain aspects of nature can reveal to us the larger picture and meanings of life.

Overall, these are easy, short sessions of reading, convenient and beneficial, even for those who live in a hurried, hectic world. Anyone who is hospitalized, confined to a home, or just needs a special lift in life, some solace, or comfort, or peace would enjoy this book. Basically, it can also serve as a unique gift, suitable to just about anyone.

“Bing” is a writer who truly reaches out to help people. She has been published in magazines, newspapers, books, pamphlets, trade journals, and newsletters, as detailed in her bio.
