"The Resurrection of Caroline Muse"
by
author John Pitts Corry

In “The
Resurrection of Caroline Muse”, Charlie (the author of
the play) complains to Sam (his editor) about his
inability to provide a plot for their upcoming play.
When Charlie calls on the muse for help, Sam informs him
that the muse/deity has just been declared deceased by a
prominent national magazine. At this point Caroline
appears with a basket of goodies and a bottle of wine,
and convinces Charlie and Sam that her demise has been
misreported.
Enlivened by their encounter with the resurrected
muse/deity the two friends attempt to share their good
news in a variety of settings; at a literary cocktail
party, a charismatic prayer meeting (co-led by a St.
Francis like pastor), and at a Good Friday peace walk.
Their efforts meet with a mixed response leading to a
surprising climax.
Those interested in spirituality in our postmodern
world, internal tensions in religion itself, or the
lively dialog between author, internal editor, and muse,
will find the playwright a thought-provoking and
entertaining play.
